Transphobic U.S. Congressman edits Wikipedia to include hate speech for Laverne Cox

Someone with an IP address sourcing to the House of Representatives just edited the Orange Is the New Black Wikipedia page with the telling summary of “not a woman.”

That’s right, this Congressman edited out a sentence hailing the show for including “the first ever women-in-prison narrative to be played by a real transgender woman.”  What did he replace it with?  Hate speech.

The Congressman called Cox a “man pretending to be a woman,” and linked to an offensive article by National Review Online aptly titled “Laverne Cox Is Not a Woman.”

The change has since been reversed and the IP address has been banned from editing Wikipedia for a month, but you can see the original edit he made in the link above.

The change was spotted by a Twitter bot which tweets out links any time a Congressional IP address edits Wikipedia.

Spread this like wildfire.

Update: it’s caused quite a stir on that IP’s talk page.

And among other things, the talk page includes: “Please do not introduce incorrect information into articles, as you did to Choco Taco.” ???

This is an image of Tourmaline, photographed from two different angles with polarised light.
Tourmaline is Pleochromic, meaning it changes colour as the angle changes. This isn’t a surface effect like the changing rainbow colours on an oil slick, it happens throughout the crystal.
The crystal structure in Tourmaline is anisotropic, which means it looks different from different directions. That means light coming in from different directions experience different effects and can get absorbed in different amounts, leading to something very cool.
It also happens with other crystals, like this Cordierite

i’ve been staring at this for like 5 minutes. so.. what. i don’t think people glow. but this is telling me that we actually emit visible light.. especially in the afternoon?? am i reading this right or what

I’m not from the science side of tumblr, but here’s the answer anyways:
 Basically, all living things are bioluminescent because every living thing has chemical reactions occurring in their cells. The energy created from these chemical reactions physically manifests as light, thus… all living things naturally glow.
 However, this glow cannot be seen by the human eye. In fact, the only way they’ve ever captured this light is through special cameras. Using these ultra special cameras, they’ve imaged subjects’ bodies over 24 hour periods. It has been found out that humans emit the most of this glow during the afternoon (about 4 PM), it is the weakest in the morning (about 10 AM), and the brightest light is emitted from the cheeks, neck, and forehead.
The light is about a thousand times weaker than what humans can perceive.
 Basically, it’s a side effect of metabolic reactions. It’s been suspected that humans are bioluminescent for years, but they weren’t able to confirm it until recently thanks to technology and a man named Masaki Kobayashi from the Tohoku Institute of Technology.
